How to choose the right lubricant for the engine

How to choose the right lubricant for the engine

One of the main properties of motor oil is its viscosity and its temperature dependence in a wide range (from ambient temperature at the time of cold start to the winter maximum temperature in the engine at maximum load in summer). The most complete description accordance viscosity-temperature properties of oils engine requirements contained in the internationally-accepted classification SAE3000.

Under this system, motor oils are divided into 6 winter (0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W) and five summer classes viscosity (20, 30, 40, 50 and 60). Winter classes are in the designation letter "W", the first word in Winter - winter. The higher the number, which is included in the designation of the class, the higher viscosity oils relating to it. All year round oil indicated double block number, the first of which indicates the minimum values of dynamic viscosity oil at low temperatures and ensures starting properties, and the second - determines characteristic for the corresponding year oil viscosity range of kinetic viscosity at 100° C and dynamic viscosity at 150° C.
